Quotes from Ancelotti’s post match press conference after 2-1 defeat against RCD Espanyol

Real Madrid suffered their 2nd consecutive defeat under manager Carlo Ancelotti on Monday. The match turned out to be a forgetful one for Madridistas as the players failed to play to their full potential which resulted in a poor performance from the Madrid giants. Questions were surrounding Ancelotti and the team’s recent poor line of form in the post-match press conference. Here’s what Ancelotti said:

Ancelotti admitted that the team is not in shape

Ancelotti: “We played badly. There isn’t much else to say,” the coach said in a post-match news conference. “We started the game with an idea, and then with the goal, we conceded we weren’t able to stay calm. There was confusion out on the pitch. The team wasn’t well-positioned with or without the ball. I have to be honest, it’s our worst game.”

Ancelotti contrasted the performance with the “small details” he said were responsible for the Sheriff defeat, saying “today wasn’t an accident. We didn’t play well. We deserved to lose. We reacted too late.”

I think the plan was quite clear, I’m not here to explain it, but I agree the team looked disorganized,”

“We didn’t have the right positioning with the ball… We have to fix it. I’ve spoken to the players and they agree.”

“I thought that [David Alaba] could help in attack. We didn’t have good balance on that side but that wasn’t his fault, I told him to push up and the midfielder had to cover, but that didn’t happen.”

Nacho also came out to face the press after a performance to forget

“We have players missing,” he said. “We have a good squad, we can do better than we’ve done in these last three games. When you concede, everything is more difficult. Espanyol are well-organized and things didn’t go our way today. We’ve had a bad week. Now we have a break, we have to reflect and work on what’s wrong.”

Real Madrid will face FC Barcelona in a Laliga fixture on 24th October after the scheduled International Break.
