We successfully completed one month without football and there’s still another to go. We at Y Nada Mas took a break over the past month but now we are slowly returning to the fold, similar to the players returning to pre-season. Although we don’t have any live football to keep us company for July, it’s time to keep an eye on some other things surrounding the club or things that the club is expected to address this month. Here, in this article, we take a look at the players who will be returning from their loan spells away from Real Madrid and what decisions the club holds for them.
Takefusa Kubo
The Japanese International is returning after his fourth loan stint away from Real Madrid since joining the club on a free transfer in 2019. During the pre-season of the 2021/22 season, Kubo joined Getafe in the hopes of more first-team football but he instead fell in the ranks of Getafe after a showing of lukewarm performances. Next, he had to change clubs and left for RCD Mallorca on a second loan spell where he failed to outshine while scoring just a goal in 28 appearances.
Kubo has struggled to make an impression over the last season while his 2020/21 season states otherwise. It is certain that the Japanese player has suffered a setback in his performance and there is no doubt that Kubo’s downfall hasn’t gone overlooked by the Real Madrid coaching department.
Personally, I feel that the 21-year-old still has enormous potential within him and can make the ranks of Real Madrid in the coming years, though not immediately. He should be given a chance away on loan for another season to better analyze his performances – the impact that he can make. It remains to be seen whether Ancelotti and the club are ready to bet that kind of patience on him.
Reinier Jesus
The Brazilian will be returning back to Real Madrid after a disappointing 2-year loan spell away at Borussia Dortmund. Real Madrid bought the attacking midfield prospect in 2020 and he was immediately loaned out to the German outfit after they spent a considerable amount to secure the loan deal for two years.
Reinier has hardly featured for Dortmund during the two-year loan course and a definite analysis of his performances couldn’t be made owing to the lack of playing time he faced.
It will be interesting to see how Ancelotti deals with the player and he might be the man to formulate the structure for Reinier’s quick development at Real or away.
Alvaro Odriozola
Alvaro Ordiozola will be returning to Real Madrid on the bank of a productive loan spell away at ACF Fiorentina.
“He [Ancelotti] told me that if I wanted to stay, it wouldn’t be a problem, that if I wanted to leave also.
“But he was clear that I wasn’t going to play 30 games and that if I left I would return in June 2022.
“So, I decided to come [to Italy], it was my decision. At no moment did he push me to make the decision, nor did Real Madrid.
“It was my decision because I believe that I needed to come here to play 30 games and, overall, to grow as a footballer. Now I hope to triumph in Italy and return to the Los Blancos home.”
These were the words of Odriozola before leaving for Fiorentina last season. From his attitude, it is certain he wants to make a mark with Real Madrid in the future even if he’s not playing all the time.
Odriozola has racked up 24 appearances in Italy. It’s been a considerably more productive spell away from the Bernabeu than when he made just five outings in a six-month loan spell with Bayern Munich in 2020-21.
With Carvajal getting injury-prone day by day, Real needs a committed player like Odriozola who can successfully replace his Spanish teammate whenever he’s unavailable.
Borja Mayoral
With impressive loan spells away at Wolfsburg, Roma, Levante, and recently Getafe, the highly-rated Real Madrid graduate will finally get a chance to make his name within the Real Madrid ranks.
He netted 8 times and registered an assist with Getafe last season playing 18 games. With Luka Jovic leaving on a permanent transfer for Fiorentina, there’s finally space for the Castilla product to be in contention for Ancelotti.
However, it is impossible to dislodge Karim Benzema from the starting eleven with the Frenchman becoming an absolute talismanic presence for Real — Borja Mayoral can only bolster the attack and form a reliable stature whenever Benzema is absent or subbed off.
