Real Madrid made yet another epic comeback against second-placed Sevilla at the Sanchez Pizjuan on Sunday. After the entertaining match it is now of utmost certainty that the Laliga title will be traveling to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Thibaut Courtois (5/10): The Zamora trophy is well out of reach for Courtois after conceding two goals on the night. Had little to do with the goals conceded owing much to the defense’s fault.
Dani Carvajal (7.5/10): Started in an unusual position for him — as a right back. He gave his all on the pitch and overlapped well with Vinicius. Registered two assists from an eccentric position.
Eder Militao (4/10): Both of Sevilla’s goals came due to the puerile defending from the Brazilian. Left a huge hole in the wall from which Rakitic took the advantage. Recovered in the second half but it was a bad day in the office for him.
David Alaba (7/10): When his defending partner was making mistakes all-around, Alaba stepped up. Effectively brought the ball forward and kept Rafa Mir from snatching a goal.
Lucas Vasquez (6.5/10): Brought the ball forward with much pace and determination with his pacey runs. Carried the right side of the field but got more freedom after the Rodrygo came and Valverde shifted to the central position.
Eduardo Camavinga (5/10): Was reckless in his challenges. Made his way into the referee’s black book in the early hours of the game and narrowly missed a second yellow for a very late challenge. Substituted during half-time.
Toni Kroos (6.5/10): Completed the most passes during the matches with a high of 87. Suffered during the first half with the whole team but improved in the second after Valverde assumed a central role.
Luka Modric (6.5/10): Like the team, he also had to suffer during the first half but improved massively in the second. Had a few misplaced passes but made two key passes in the second. The fatigue was clear in his face and performance.
Fede Valverde (7.5/10): Lopetegui got him well covered when the Uruguyan started the game from the right flank. Made the team improve massively after assuming a central role. Performed like an auxiliary midfielder who can run around the pitch. This guy has energy for days!
Vini Jr (8/10): His gameplay resulted in the first two goals for Real Madrid. His goal was controversially disallowed but he had a good game in general.
Karim Benzema (9/10): The Man, The Moment! Karim Benzema was at it again after slotting home the winner for Real Madrid. 39 goals in 39 games, yes, you saw it right.
Substitutes
Nacho (8/10): Scored the equalizer within moments after coming on the pitch. Defended effectively.
Rodrygo (8.5/10): Had a near-perfect match. Scored the first goal and got an assist for the third one after making an exquisite run tearing apart the Sevilla defense.
Marco Asensio and Mariano Diaz couldn’t make an impact on the match.
