“He is a complete midfielder, very fast and physically strong, he reminds me of Steven Gerrard” were the words of Monaco’s sporting director Paul Mitchell talking to Tuttosport about Aurélien Tchouaméni.
Apart from Kylian Mbappe with whom Real Madrid have been linked for the past three years with the saga coming to a probable end this summer, another player who has caught the eye of Madrid’s scouts is Monaco and French midfielder Aurelien Tchouaméni. Real’s holy trinity midfield consisting of Kroos, Modric, and Casemiro, is not getting any younger and it seems like this summer is the “right time” to introduce some new faces and secure the future of our midfield.
Tchouaméni is a natural defensive midfielder similar to Casemiro in both stature and position. Aurelien’s playing style is also similar to that of the Brazilian, making the tackles when needed, keeping the opposition at bay, and releasing defense shredding passes. With all of these attributes, there is no doubt as to why Real Madrid wants the Frenchman to put pen to paper and become a long-term replacement for Casemiro.
Tchouaméni made his first-team debut for Bordeaux and made a total of 38 appearances for the club before leaving for AS Monaco. For Monaco, he has made 86 appearances and scored six goals with the same number of assists. During his time with the Monegasque club, he racked up 26 yellow cards and has been sent off two times (indeed Casemiro’s successor).
Now getting to the point of the actual discussion, what will Tchouaméni bring to this Madrid side?
Well, the answer is simple and forthright, if Real Madrid manages to sign the Frenchman next summer succeeding over all the other clubs in the competition to sign him, he will be nothing more than a reserve. We have already seen how Camavinga has been subject to a lack of playing time and Tchouaméni will have to endure the same fate if he joins us now. Of course, he will be bought for a long-term project eventually becoming the replacement for Casemiro after a few years but with the KCM midfield in form and aging like fine wine, there will be uncertainty over the Frenchman’s playing time at the club. If he joins us this summer, we may see him as a regular substitute but he will have to perform well over his competitors for the midfield position like Camavinga and Valverde.
Coming to the conclusion of this rough analysis about Tchouaméni, rumors have been strong about his transfer to Real Madrid but nothing is certain as of now and perhaps we have to wait until the end of the summer transfer window for anything significant.
