Match Review | Real Madrid 2-1 Getafe

A late Jude Bellingham goal sealed the three points for Real Madrid as they extended their 100% start to the season in the first outing at the Nuevo Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid aimed to control the game from the start to avoid a reversal of Getafe’s performance versus Barcelona. However, the Azulones kept on piling pressure on Madrid by fouling them to obstruct the passage of gameplay.

Former Madridista Borja Mayoral broke the deadlock in the 11th minute as he took advantage of a huge mishap at the back of Real Madrid. The hosts kept on pressuring their neighborhood rivals after conceding and received a penalty following an assumed altercation in the box on Jude Bellingham. However, after a long VAR check, the referee overturned his primary decision and discarded the spot kick.

Real Madrid started the second half on the front foot and Getafe switched to a defensive mode to see out the match. Los Blancos equalized the scores in the 47th minute when Luka Modric forced a save from David Soria and new signing Joselu opened his account from the rebound.

The league leaders kept on pounding shots from different areas of the pitch and the Getafe goalkeeper matched all of them, earning him the MVP of the match. Despite his shot-stopping prowess, Soria failed to stop the goal which helped the hosts get the three points. It was in the 90 + 5th minute when Lucas Vasquez struck a shot from outside the box which rebounded off the goalie and was thumped in by Jude Bellingham, who continued his thrilling start in Los Blancos colors.

With this win, Real Madrid consolidated their position at the top of the table and they will aim to continue that after the International break.
