Real Madrid overcome Barcelona in a thrilling Clasico

It is always a thrilling encounter when these two arch-rivals meet, and especially in the semi final of the Supercopa De Espana where defeat leads to direct elimination. Real Madrid won the day 3-2 but they were made to sweat for the result.

Vinicius Jr. currently in an impressive line of form drew first blood, it was Benzema who started the move to the goal as he collected the ball from Modric and made a pin-point through ball towards Vini down the left flank, who held his composure and slotted in the top left-hand corner.

The equalizer came for Barca in the 41st minute after Militao blasted a clearance of Luuk De Jong and the ball went in goal after deflecting off the left post. De jong’s recent form and luck helped him to get on the scoresheet in the Clasico.

The last 10 minutes of the first half were totally under control of the Catalans while Madrid enjoyed possession for most of the first half.

Karim Benzema nearly gave Real Madrid the lead in the 69th minute but was denied by the far post. It was an impressive move from Real as Vini Jr. released Benzema into the box who carved a decent amount of space for him but the finishing was not as clinical as we have seen from him this season.

However, Benzema came back haunting for the Blaugrana just after 3 minutes the post denied him, Mendy started the move from the left-wing as he barged into the Barca defense and provided the ball to Benzema whose first effort was saved by Ter Stegen, Vini took a shot off the rebound which again didn’t reach the net courtesy of the German goalkeeper but 3rd time is a charm, as they say, and Benzema had no problem scoring with a shot at the middle of the goal after the rebound. Benzema’s positioning grabs the attention as he swiftly returned to a scoring position after missing his first effort.

The later part of the second half was strongly under the command of the Catalans as Madrid’s midfield looked tired and sloppy did not like their usual selves after Modric was subbed off. Barca’s constant pressure bore them fruit as Ansu Fati marked his return after a long injury with a headed goal from a well-worked corner in the 83rd minute.

The hotly contested Clasico finished level at the 90 minute mark and it would take extra time to separate the two rivals. Although the Madrid midfield looked sloppy towards the end of the second half, they showed much-improved composure in extra time which ultimately led to Real Madrid’s winning goal. It was a stunning counterattack from Los Blancos as Barca invested men forward in attack which led to a Casemiro breakaway with the ball along with Benzema, Vini and Rodrygo on the run. He fed the ball to Rodrygo just outside the box. The Brazilian winger sends a cutback pass which Vinicius dummied and ‘El Parajito’ Fede Valverde slotted home with a cool finish.

The game ended as a great spectacle for both sets of fans, they got to enjoy a good game of football and an absolute goal-fest which became rare in recent Clasico’s. With this win over the Blaugrana, Los Blancos make their historic 100th Clasico win and they have now beaten Barca in 5 consecutive ‘El Clasicos’.
